ABC Art for Kids: Sizing & Printing Alphabet Wall Decals, Growth Charts, and Nursery Murals
During the original LTL Prints wall-graphics era (2010–2016), /abcartforkids was one of the most-visited collections on this domain—featuring A–Z alphabet letter decals, personalized 5-foot growth charts, and firetruck or nursery wall graphics printed on repositionable fabric. Today, LTL Prints is an independent print-sizing studio (not the former retail shop). Use this guide and our free browser tools to prepare nursery art, growth charts, and alphabet decals that print razor-sharp and come off the wall cleanly when your child outgrows them.
1. Exact Dimensions & Pixel Math for Kids' Growth Charts and Alphabet Sets
Unlike a standard poster viewed from across the room, a nursery growth chart or bedside alphabet decal is inspected from 12 to 24 inches away. That close viewing distance requires at least 200 to 300 DPI so ruler tick marks, serif letterforms, and small name personalizations never look pixelated.
| Nursery Print Format | Physical Size (Inches) | Minimum Pixels (200 DPI) | Studio Ideal (300 DPI) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vertical Ruler Growth Chart | 12" × 60" (1 × 5 ft) | 2,400 × 12,000 px | 3,600 × 18,000 px (or vector PDF/SVG) |
| A–Z Alphabet Poster (Above Crib) | 24" × 36" (2:3 ratio) | 4,800 × 7,200 px | 7,200 × 10,800 px |
| Individual Cutout Letter Decal | 8" × 10" per letter | 1,600 × 2,000 px | 2,400 × 3,000 px (transparent PNG) |
| Full Crib Accent Wall Mural | 96" × 72" (8 × 6 ft) | 9,600 × 7,200 px (100 DPI) | 14,400 × 10,800 px (150 DPI) |

2. Repositionable Woven Fabric vs. Calendared Vinyl for Nursery Walls
Parents decorating a rental apartment or newly painted nursery should pay close attention to the substrate material before ordering from any print-on-demand vendor:
- Repositionable Polyester Woven Fabric (Recommended): Uses a low-tack microsphere acrylic adhesive that breathes, resists curling at the corners, has a soft matte finish with zero glare under nursery lamps, and peels off cleanly without lifting drywall primer.
- Standard Monomeric Vinyl Stickers: Cheaper upfront, but aggressive solvent adhesives can bond permanently to flat or eggshell latex paint after 6–12 months—especially on sun-warmed walls.
- Fresh Paint Cure Rule: Always wait at least 21 to 30 days after painting a nursery before applying any peel-and-stick growth chart or alphabet decal. Outgassing solvents from uncured paint trap bubbles under the film and cause premature edge lift.
3. Mounting Height for Kids' Growth Charts (So Baseboards Don't Throw Off the Inch Marks)
Most 60-inch (5-foot) decal growth charts begin their ruler scale at 6 inches or 12 inches rather than 0 inches so the bottom edge clears your baseboard trim. Before peeling the backing liner:
- Measure up from the hard floor (not the top of the baseboard) using a metal tape measure and mark a light pencil line at exactly 24 inches and 48 inches.
- Align the corresponding 2-foot and 4-foot tick marks on the printed growth chart with your wall marks using a laser or bubble level.
- Hinge the top 6 inches first, squeegee from the center spine outward with a felt-edge applicator, and work downward in 12-inch increments.
